A one time use only cartridge with 14 small, fine stainless steel needles are set to the appropriate depth dependent on the targeted treatment. These microscopic channels activate the body’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating new skin cells, collagen fibers and elastin fibres  through blood flow to the skin.  This new granulation tissue then remodels over time and the effects of rejuvenation become visible  This process can gradually improve skin firmness, texture and overall appearance.

Because SkinPen creates controlled micro-channels, it allows deeper penetration and absorption of Exosomes applied during and after treatment.

• The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared before SkinPen microneedling is performed.
• A thin layer of numbing cream is applied ot the treatment area to make the treatment virtually pain free.
• The exosome serum is spread across the treatment area.
• The device is passed over the treatment area in a controlled and systematic manner, with the depth adjusted according to the area being treated and your individual skin requirements.
• Purasomes are then applied post microneedling so the residual serum can absorb into the created microchannels.

A full consultation and procedure typically takes around 60 minutes, although this can vary depending on the treatment area. If you have already been to our clinic this can often be carried out in 45 mins.

Following treatment, your skin will appear quite red but this subsides quickly and is an absolute requirement for stimulating new cells and fibers. Your skin may feel warm or sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn and will feel dry and tight. We will give you two gels to take home and apply to help alleviate the dryness and restore the skin’s hydration levels. This is a normal response to microneedling and generally settles relatively quickly within a few hours and generally skin appears back to normal the following day depending on your response as each individual’s recovery varies.

Results are very subjective and it is very important to understand that skin rejuvenation is a longer term objective opposed to a quick fix, therefore patience is key.

Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear brighter and more hydrated, although some redness is expected.

As the skin’s natural regenerative processes take place, improvements in texture, firmness, tone and overall skin quality can become increasingly noticeable.

Collagen production is a gradual process, so results continue to develop over the weeks following treatment.

A course of treatments may be recommended depending on your skin concerns and desired outcome.

Results vary between individuals and depend on factors including age, skin condition, lifestyle and the specific concern being treated.

This is a question we get a lot and is a very difficult one to answer. Our recommendation is that if you are new to this treatment, to start with a course of 4 and space these out every 4 weeks. After that you can add in booster sessions whenever you like and then repeat the course of 4 annually. This tends to initiate a much bigger initial stimulatory response particularly if you are targeting an actual skin concern such as acne scarring etc.

However, doing an individual session every now and again will also be beneficial and stimulatory as a longer term prevention protocol, however initial results may take a little but longer to appear.

In short no. We apply a thin layer of numbing cream to the skin prior for 10 minutes or so and then carry out the treatment. Clients are also welcome to purchase their own numbing cream and apply this before coming to their appointment if they wish to leave it on a little longer (or save time at the appointment) for even more comfort.  Be careful not to purchase numbing cream that contains adrenaline which is often found in cheap online numbing creams or tattooist numbing creams.

Depending on how well you respond to treatment, you may feel a little slight pricking sensation or nothing at all.  We often find clients find the vibration of the Skinen quite relaxing…. And people have been known to fall asleep during treatment!

However, again everyone has different pain thresholds and responds differently to the numbing cream.

Some redness, warmth and sensitivity are expected following treatment.

The skin may appear similar to mild sunburn for the first day or two, followed by temporary dryness or flaking as the skin recovers.

Most clients can return to normal daily activities relatively quickly, although strenuous exercise, excessive heat, direct sun exposure and certain skincare products may need to be avoided temporarily.

24 Hours No Make-up or SPF (SPF is not designed to penetrate deep into the skin, its function is at the surface. After 24 hours SPF is critical.)

72 Hours No heavy sweaty exercise or activities – saunas, steam rooms etc…

1 Week no active ingredients (retinols, glycolic acids, salicylic acid or any other acidic or exfoliating ingredients)

2 Weeks no other Skin treatments such as facials or skin peels.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure and risks and side effects are extremely low.
Side effects are generally always expected and some of which are mandatory for an effective treatment such as redness. Other side effects which are temporary include temporary redness, swelling, dryness, peeling and increased skin sensitivity.

Risks which are more important are skin infections if aftercare if not followed correctly, allergic reaction to Stainless steel or topical numbing cream (lidocaine). These are very rare and we expect allergic reactions that are known to be raised during the consultation period which is undertaken before treatment to assess your suitability and minimise potential complications.

Depending on your skin and aesthetic objectives, Purasomes and SkinPen may form part of a wider skin rejuvenation programme.

Your practitioner can discuss whether it would be appropriate to combine or alternate microneedling with other treatments such as chemical peels, medical-grade skincare or injectable treatments.
