What it is

A long-term inflammatory facial skin condition that may cause persistent redness, flushing, visible blood vessels, sensitivity and acne-like bumps.

Common triggers

Sunlight, heat, cold weather, stress, alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks, exercise and unsuitable skincare. Triggers vary from person to person.

Who it affects

Rosacea can affect any skin tone and may begin at any age, although it most often appears in adults. It is more commonly diagnosed in women, while severe changes may be more marked in men.

How we manage it

A tailored combination of gentle skincare, daily sun protection, trigger management, appropriate medical referral or prescription care, and selected light- or laser-based treatments for visible vessels and redness.

Understanding Rosacea

Rosacea usually affects the centre of the face, including the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. It can look different from one person to another: some people mainly experience flushing and persistent redness, while others develop visible thread veins, bumps, pustules, burning, stinging or dry, reactive skin. Features can overlap and may change over time.

Rosacea is not caused by poor hygiene and it is not contagious. There is no permanent cure, but the condition can often be controlled with the right combination of daily care, trigger awareness and professional treatment. Because several conditions can resemble rosacea, an accurate assessment is an important first step.

How We Treat Rosacea

Your plan is based on the features you want to improve, the activity of your rosacea, your skin tone, sensitivity, medical history and previous treatments. We may recommend stabilising an active flare before considering an in-clinic procedure.

Rosacea-Suitable Medical Skincare

A simple, barrier-supporting routine can help reduce irritation and improve tolerance. We can recommend gentle cleansing, moisturising and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, while helping you avoid harsh exfoliants, fragrance and products that repeatedly trigger your skin.

Vascular Laser or IPL

Where appropriate, carefully selected vascular laser or intense pulsed light treatment may help reduce persistent facial redness and visible thread veins. It does not treat every feature of rosacea and cannot prevent future flare-ups, so suitability, expected improvement, risks and likely treatment course are discussed at consultation. A patch test may be required.

Professional Skin Treatments

Selected gentle, superficial treatments may support texture, hydration and overall skin quality once rosacea is stable. Strong peels, aggressive exfoliation and microneedling are not automatically suitable for active or highly reactive rosacea. We will only recommend a procedure when its likely benefit outweighs the risk of irritation or a flare.

Medical Management & Referral

Inflammatory bumps, pustules or significant ongoing symptoms may respond better to prescription creams, gels or oral treatment through a GP, prescribing clinician or dermatologist. If your presentation needs medical diagnosis or management beyond the clinic’s scope, we will explain the appropriate next step rather than recommending a cosmetic procedure.

Why Asthetik for Rosacea

Doctor-Led

A careful consultation considers your symptoms, triggers, skin barrier and the possibility of other causes of facial redness before a plan is proposed.

Safety & Ethics

We favour gradual, evidence-informed management and will not promise a cure. Treatment is postponed or declined when your skin is actively inflamed or a procedure is unlikely to help.

Personalised Care

Rosacea is not one single presentation. Recommendations are matched to visible vessels, persistent redness, inflammatory lesions, sensitivity and your individual skin tone.

Experience

Established clinical experience, careful treatment selection and transparent advice from consultation through aftercare.

Results

Results depend on the rosacea features being treated. Laser or IPL may soften visible vessels and background redness over a course of sessions, while a consistent skincare and trigger-management plan can help reduce irritation and support longer-term control. Rosacea can relapse, and maintenance may be recommended.

Pricing

Rosacea treatment is personalised, so cost depends on the treatment selected and the number of sessions advised.

Indicative price From £200
Your consultation includes Assessment of your concerns and skin history, discussion of suitable options, expected outcomes, risks, aftercare and a personalised plan.

Frequently asked questions

Rosacea is a long-term condition and there is currently no permanent cure. Treatment aims to control symptoms, reduce visible signs and improve comfort. Flare-ups can still occur, so ongoing skincare, sun protection and trigger management are important.

Common triggers include sunlight, heat, cold weather, stress, alcohol, spicy foods, hot drinks and exercise, but not everyone reacts to the same things. Keeping a simple diary can help identify your own pattern without unnecessarily avoiding everything at once.

Vascular laser or IPL may reduce persistent redness and visible blood vessels in suitable patients, but it does not cure rosacea or reliably treat every symptom. More than one session may be needed, and future maintenance can be required as new vessels or redness develop.

Not always. Active, inflamed or very reactive rosacea can be aggravated by procedures that disrupt or irritate the skin. A gentle superficial treatment may occasionally be considered when the condition is stable, but only after assessment. We would not recommend microneedling or a peel simply because it appears on a general treatment menu.

See a GP if you think you may have rosacea, if symptoms are worsening, or if you have persistent bumps or pustules that may need prescription treatment. Seek urgent NHS advice if you develop eye pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, a red eye or a gritty eye sensation, as these can require prompt assessment.
